June 2, 2023
Smithville – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, joined Kathey Putman, President of Branch 393 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Cheryl Ganaan, Mayor of the Township of West Lincoln, in Smithville today to recognize $176,400 in funding received through two grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“The Smithville Legion is an important service organization in our community for veterans and their families, as well as so many others,” said MPP Oosterhoff.
“I am thankful for the work they do and grateful for the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation in recognizing their need with grants for a new parking lot and kitchen updgrades. I congratulate Branch 393 and thank them for the vital contributions they make to our local community!”
“I cannot tell you just how much the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation means to our veterans and to the volunteers who work tirelessly to provide support to them and our community,” said Kathey Putman, President of Branch 393.
“We are extremely grateful.”
Branch 393 received $60,900 through the Community Building Fund of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, orginally awarded in December 2021.
The funding helped support construction of a safe and accessible parking at both entrances of the Legion hall, as well as enhancing accessibility of the lower-level washrooms.
Branch 393 received $115,500 through the Resilient Communities Fund of the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support upgrades of the Legion hall kitchen facilities.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario, is one of Canada’s leading community granting foundations. In 2022, the Ontario Trillium Foundation invested over $110 million into 1,022 community projects and partnerships.
