Beamsville – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, joined Carolyn Askeland, Executive Director of Community Support Services of Niagara, and Tony Brunet, Deputy Mayor of the Town of Lincoln, at Albright Gardens in Beamsville to announce a $52,000 grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation supporting seniors and adults living with disabilities in West Niagara. The provincial grant is funding the purchase of a new vehicle providing transportation for vulnerable residents as they travel to and from home for various appointments.

“I applaud the work of Community Support Services of Niagara in supporting local seniors and adults living with disabilities in Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln.” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

“This provincial grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to purchase a new van will help ensure safe and reliable transportation for local residents when attending medical and other critical appointments.”

The new van replaces an older vehicle, ensuring safe and reliable transportation for local clients, as well as cost savings in maintenance and repair.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be underestimated,” said Carolyn Askeland, Executive Director of Community Support Services of Niagara.

“It will ensure seniors and adults with disabilities maintain health by supporting them with rides to important medical appointments. Often clients do not have the social supports to assist them in accessing transportation and/or have health and mobility issues that impede their ability to do it independently. This provincial grant made it possible for Community Support Services of Niagara to purchase the infrastructure needed to ensure long term sustainability and success for those we serve.”

Community Support Services of Niagara supports seniors and adults living with disabilities, promoting independence, dignity and inclusion through programs like Meals on Wheels, allowing clients to age in place and remain safe and happy in their homes.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario, is one of Canada’s leading community granting foundations. In 2022, the Ontario Trillium Foundation invested over $110 million into 1,022 community projects and partnerships.
