Ontario Trillium Foundation Supports Niagara West YMCA

Grimsby – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, joined Christian Wulff, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Niagara, and Ben McDermott, General Manager of Health, Fitness and Aquatics at the YMCA of Niagara, in Grimsby today to announce $115,800 in funding received through a capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

“The Niagara West YMCA in Grimsby is a key institution in our local community,” said MPP Oosterhoff.

“This Ontario Trillium Foundation capital grant has supported the replacement of the aging heating system, helping keep memberships affordable and helping local seniors, families and students stay active and healthy. It’s one more example of how the Ontario government is investing in local communities across Niagara West.”

Upgrades at the West Niagara YMCA include the installation of a new boiler at the fitness and aquatic centre. The project will ensure a reliable and energy-efficient heating system, enhancing the comfort and experience for all visitors and staff.

“Thanks to this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, we can continue to provide a safe and warm environment for the thousands of children, families, and seniors who visit us each year,” said Ben McDermott.

“This upgrade is a testament to our commitment to maintaining high standards of facility care and community service.”

“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference,” said Hon. Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport.

“That is why this funding provided through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. Our government wants to ensure that these programs and spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario, is one of Canada’s leading community granting foundations. In 2023/24, the Ontario Trillium Foundation has invested over $31 million in 295 non-profit organizations through the Resilient Communities Fund and $39 million in 448 non-profit organizations through the Capital Grant Stream.
