October 1, 2025

Fonthill – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, today announced $60,000 in provincial funding through an Inclusive Community Grant for the Town of Pelham. Inclusive Community Grant support local projects that help improve accessibility and support people of all ages and abilities across Ontario.

The funding is helping to increase accessibility for older adults and people with disabilities by providing rest areas at public outdoor gathering spaces and on local trails in the Town of Pelham with the placement of eighteen accessible benches and concrete pads in Fonthill and Fenwick.

“This investment in accessible benches will remove barriers locally and let people of all abilities live active and independent lives in the Town of Pelham,” said MPP Oosterhoff.

“We see real results with Inclusive Community Grants that help so many residents across the province and right here in Niagara West.”

“Inclusive Community Grants remove barriers for people of all abilities,” said Hon. Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

“These grants help prevent social isolation and create new opportunities for everyone to stay active and healthy.”

Minister Cho viewed the new benches while attending a Seniors Active Living Fair held today at the Meridian Community Centre in Fonthill.

“The Town of Pelham is grateful to the province for the continued support for enhancements for our community,” said Marvin Junkin, Mayor of the Town of Pelham.

“The installation of theses benches will make it easier for residents – regardless of abilities – to enjoy trails and public spaces in our community.”

“This Inclusive Community Grant for new benches will enable residents to enjoy our local community and natural surroundings,” said Wayne Olson, Regional Councillor for the Town of Pelham.

“Thank you to the province for a progressive, human-centred policy that addresses the needs of people of all ages and abilities.”

Since the Inclusive Community Grants Program was created in 2020, Ontario has provided over $5 million to support 107 projects promoting inclusivity and accessibility across the province.
