St. Catharines – The Ontario government is ensuring students at Brock University have access to modern facilities, learning tools and equipment so students develop the skills to succeed in the workforce through an investment of $3,860,350 in 2023-24.

“This support will ensure students at Brock University have access to modern instructional equipment to meet business and industry standards and enhance the overall student learning experience,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

“By investing in postsecondary infrastructure, we are not only supporting our local economy right here in Niagara, but ensuring students develop the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.”

“It is essential that our colleges and universities have the latest learning tools and equipment so students can get the skills they need for the in-demand jobs of today and tomorrow,” said Hon. Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities.

“As part of our government’s plan to build Ontario, this investment will help institutions renew and modernize their facilities and allow them to continually improve the learning experience for students.”

The provincial funding includes $3,579,100 through the Facilities Renewal Program and $281,250 through the Training Equipment and Renewal Fund.

Funding through the Training Equipment and Renewal Fund will support capital investments to help equip the Engineering and Science Design Studio at Brock University, including equipment for design, prototyping, fabrication, manufacturing and testing, CNC machines and simulation/CAD software.

“We are thrilled about this substantial investment from the Ontario government,” said Dr. Lesley Rigg, President and Vice-Chancellor of Brock University.

“This support enables us to provide students with the latest tools and technologies to align their education with industry standards. It will also significantly enhance our new Integrated Engineering Program, fostering innovative learning and equipping students with the skills needed to excel in the evolving engineering landscape.”

Colleges and universities can use Training Equipment and Renewal Funding for projects that support the renewal and modernization of campuses, including major building systems upgrades, heating and ventilating system upgrades, and mechanical and electrical system upgrades. The funds can also be used to buy instructional equipment and materials, such as new computers and software for teaching purposes, specialized equipment, or machinery for use in labs and classrooms, and tools for shops.
