Ontario Helping Seniors Stay Healthy, Active and Connected in Grimsby

June 23, 2023

Grimsby – Today, Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, announced the Ontario government continues to invest in seniors more than ever before by funding Seniors Community Grants across the province, including providing over $120,000 in support for seven recipients across Niagara, including the Town of Grimsby, Town of Lincoln, Town of Pelham and Township of West Lincoln in Niagara West.

Additional recipients include Brock University, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum and Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region.

MPP Oosterhoff was joined at the Livingston Activity Centre in Grimsby by Daisy Wai, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, and Jeff Jordan, Mayor of the Town of Grimsby, as well as Sarah Sweeney, Director of Community Services, and Krista Bowie, Recreation Supervisor of Programs and Services at the Town of Grimsby, to announce the provincial funding.

Seniors Community Grants help seniors stay safe, fit, active, healthy, socially connected, in their community and close to home.

“These investments make a big difference in the lives of Ontario’s older adults here in Niagara,” said MPP Oosterhoff.

“Staying connected close to home and safely taking part in local programs allows seniors to keep active with friends, family and the community.”

“I was happy to join MPP Oosterhoff in Grimsby today as our government announced over $120,000 in support for seven recipients of the Seniors Community Grant in Niagara,” said Daisy Wai, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

“Today’s announcement is part of $6 million in provincial funding for more than 280 Seniors Community Grant projects across Ontario.”

“The Town of Grimsby has worked hard to implement programming that keeps local seniors fit, active and engaged,” said Jeff Jordan, Mayor of the Town of Grimsby.

“This provincial funding will support a new Aging with Passion and Purpose project and help advance the goals of the Town of Grimsby to be an inclusive and age-friendly community.”

The critical funding from the province helps local groups and organizations empower seniors to be active and connected to family and friends in their own communities – from physical activities to arts and music appreciation, to virtual speakers’ series, day trips, and so much more.

“Seniors Community Grants are keeping our seniors fit, active, healthy and socially connected close to home, in their communities,” said Hon. Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

“Our government is proud to invest in these projects with local organizations to meet the needs of seniors, provide the supports seniors need and deserve that also help to battle social isolation.”

Since 2018, Ontario has invested over $22 million dollars in over 1,240 Seniors Community Grant projects across the province.
