New West Lincoln Memorial Hospital to Open in October

May 8, 2025

Grimsby – As the final stages of construction continue at the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, Hamilton Health Sciences has announced the redeveloped site is scheduled to open on or around October 27, 2025 – exactly seventy-six years to the month of the existing hospital opening on the site.

“This day has been long expected by our community,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

“This key milestone announcement is exciting news for the community advocates, volunteers, staff and local leaders who have worked so hard to make this day a reality. I am thankful for everyone who has worked to make our new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital a reality and I am grateful to have played a role in advocating for this important project. I am confident this new hospital, along with our local amazing frontline health care workers, will serve families and patients in Niagara West for generations to come.”

“Our government is protecting Ontario’s health care system and ensuring that more people in West Niagara can connect to world-class care, when they need it most,” said Hon. Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

“This exciting milestone brings us one step closer to opening the new and expanded West Lincoln Memorial Hospital and is another way we are making it faster and easier for more people to access the care they need, in their community, for years to come.”

The hospital project is a little more than two months out from substantial completion, which is a significant project milestone. Substantial completion of the project is scheduled for on or around July 21, 2025.

Following substantial completion, Hamilton Health Sciences will begin moving critical medial equipment and supplies into the new building and begin training staff and physicians before patients move into the completed building.

“The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a testament to the dedication of our community,” said Tracey MacArthur, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Health Sciences.

“Together, we have built more than a hospital – we have built a future for local, high-quality care that will serve generations to come.”

The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital will increase the size of the existing facility by nearly eighty percent and include fifty-five inpatient beds, three operating rooms, a 24-hour emergency department and increased ambulatory care capacity to allow more people in West Niagara to connect to high-quality care, in their community.

The new hospital will open gradually under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, following the province’s established process for post-construction operating planning. This will allow Hamilton Heath Sciences and the Ministry of Health to work together to assess patient volumes.

“From signing petitions to placing lawn signs to advocating with the province and local health system officials, the effort to build and complete the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has been a team effort from the beginning,” said Tony Joosse, Co-Chair of the Save and Rebuild West Lincoln Memorial Hospital campaign.

“This milestone announcement is a celebration of what happens when a community rallies around a local cause and never gives up!”

“The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a major step forward for health care in West Niagara,” said Bruce Squires, Vice-President of Women’s and Children’s Health at Hamilton Health Sciences and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Site Executive.

“This modern facility will give staff and physicians the space, tools, and technology they need to continue delivering exceptional care to a growing community.”
