St. Catharines – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, welcomed the reopening of Sunset Beach, today, in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the iconic waterfront destination on Lake Ontario in St. Catharines. MPP Oosterhoff was joined by Jennie Stevens, MPP for St. Catharines, and Mat Siscoe, Mayor of the City of St. Catharines, as well as local councillors, city staff and residents, to celebrate the extensive improvements at the municipal park.
“Sunset Beach has been a favourite waterfront destination for families in St. Catharines for generations,” said MPP Oosterhoff.
“With the redevelopment of this recreational space complete – including provincial funding to support improvements of the parking lot, boat ramp and existing park amenities, as well as shoreline protection efforts – this iconic city beach will continue to serve local residents for years to come.”
The Sunset Beach Renovation Project – which was funded by a $4.4 million provincial grant through the Strategic Priority Infrastructure Fund – included extensive consultation from local community members and city staff.
“Our government is proud to support local infrastructure projects that lay the foundation for strong, resilient communities and make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Hon. Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure.
“The renovation of Sunset Beach in St. Catharines is part of Ontario’s $236 billion capital plan over the next decade to build and expand infrastructure that will help keep workers on the job and support economic growth.”
“Sunset Beach belongs to the community, and this transformation reflects what residents told us they wanted it to be,” said Mayor Siscoe.
“Thanks to the partnership and investment of the Ontario government, we have been able to protect this treasured waterfront space while creating a more accessible, welcoming and vibrant destination for everyone.”
The funding is part of the Ontario government’s more than $200 billion capital plan to protect Ontario by building key public infrastructure that will strengthen the economy and keep workers on the job in the face of tariffs and economic uncertainty.
