MPP Oosterhoff Welcomes Opening of New West Lincoln Memorial Hospital

November 14, 2025

Grimsby – The Ontario government is celebrating the grand opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, which delivers on a key government promise to connect more people in Niagara to more convenient, high-quality hospital care, closer to home. This project is one more way the government is delivering on its plan to protect the provincial health-care system by investing nearly $60 billion in more than fifty major hospital projects across the province over the next ten years. The province announced its support for the new hospital in November 2018, with shovels in the ground in May 2022.

“Today is a big day for Niagara,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

“The opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has been highly anticipated by local residents and frontline staff since Premier Ford announced the commitment to rebuild in 2018. I am grateful to have been able to help get this life-changing project across the finish line, together with community advocates, municipal leaders, determined volunteers and a dedicated patient care team who have worked so hard to make this a reality.”

“With a 24/7 Emergency Room, expanded capacity and state-of-the-art equipment, the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a game-changer for the people of West Niagara, giving families peace of mind knowing that world-class health care is available close to home,” said Hon. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario.

“Our government will continue making historic investments in health care across the province to ensure families can access the services they need, when and where they need them.”

Supported by a provincial investment of nearly $250 million, the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is nearly eighty percent larger than the existing facility it is replacing and is the first new hospital in Ontario to include all single-patient rooms. This facility will offer both inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency care, complex and palliative care and surgical services in new, more modern facilities, so the hospital can better serve the needs of people and families in West Niagara for years to come.

“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people can connect to convenient care in their community,” said Hon. Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

“We are excited to celebrate the opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, building vital capacity for Niagara Region and helping more families access the right care, in the right place, for generations to come.”

“The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital marks a new era of health care in West Niagara,” said Tracey MacArthur, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Health Sciences.

“It raises the standard for high quality, sustainable and compassionate care close to home and is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together.”

Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is expanding and modernizing Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it. Ontario’s historic investment of nearly $60 billion in major health infrastructure is also a part of the government’s more than $201 billion plan to build highways, hospitals, transit, schools and other critical infrastructure across the province.

“The official opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is fantastic news for people and families in Niagara,” said Jeff Jordan, Mayor of the Town of Grimsby.

“This new hospital will serve this growing community for generations to come, providing modern and integrated care close to home.”

“The opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital marks a historic moment for our entire region,” said Sandra Easton, Mayor of Town of Lincoln.

“This state-of-the-art facility reflects years of collaboration, advocacy and shared vision across West Niagara.”

“It is truly an honour to celebrate the grand opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital,” said Cheryl Ganann, Mayor of the Township of West Lincoln.

“Many hands and many voices made this momentous day possible, and I am filled with gratitude for every single person involved.”

“As a long-time resident of Grimsby, I am thrilled to finally see the opening of this beautiful facility that we have waited so long for,” said Regional Councillor, Michelle Seaborn.

“We now have a modern, fully equipped hospital that we can be proud of.”

“I am very pleased with the commitment and dedication of our community to support this wonderful facility that will provide much needed services for today and into the future,” said Regional Councillor, Albert Witteveen.

“From signing petitions to placing lawn signs to advocating with the province and local health system officials, the effort to build and complete the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has been a team effort from the beginning,” said Tony Joosse, Co-Chair of the Save and Rebuild West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Campaign.

“Today’s grand opening is a celebration of what happens when a community rallies around a local cause and never gives up.”

In addition to critical investments to build both the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital and Niagara South Hospital in Niagara Falls, the Ontario government is also supporting critical infrastructure upgrades at the Welland Hospital to connect people to improved patient care and the services they need.
