MPP Oosterhoff Welcomes Niagara Delegation to Queen’s Park

October 30, 2025

Toronto – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, welcomed delegates of the Regional Municipality of Niagara and Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce to Queen’s Park this week to engage with government Ministers, elected Members and senior staff on Niagara priorities.

Regional representatives highlighted the importance of advancing the South Niagara Wastewater Treatment Plant project to enable local housing and economic development and expanding rail service to Niagara on the Lakeshore West Corridor to accommodate growing commuter traffic and tourism in the region.

“I have always said, I was elected to be the voice of Niagara at Queen’s Park – not the voice of Queen’s Park to Niagara,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

“The province has made record investments in our region – from new hospitals and critical water infrastructure to funding for supportive housing and children’s services. But there is still more to do, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue working with representatives from our local municipalities to keep delivering for families and workers in Niagara.”

Niagara delegates were at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Monday to Wednesday, meeting in person with several elected Members, including Hon. Victor Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade; Hon. Todd McCarthy, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and Acting Minister of Infrastructure; Hon. Michael Kerzner, Solicitor General, and Hon. Graydon Smith, Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Delegates also met with Dave Smith, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance; Deepak Anand, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, and John Jordan, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care.

MPP Oosterhoff, along with Hon. Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, addressed Niagara delegates – along with their provincial colleagues – at a capacity attendance Niagara Week reception Monday evening. The reception at Queen’s Park was catered by students enrolled in the School of Culinary Arts at Niagara College.

“I would like to thank the Ontario government for three days of positive, productive conversations which marked a very successful Niagara Week,” said Pat Chiocchio, Acting Chair of the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

“Together, we explored innovative solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the Niagara Region – which were very well received – and we look forward to continued collaboration with our provincial partners.”

“Niagara Week showed what we can achieve when the province and Niagara pull in the same direction,” said Ron Tripp, Chief Administrative Officer of the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

“We advanced practical proposals that unlock capacity for future growth. With sustained provincial partnership, Niagara is ready to move from plans to projects that grow the economy, improve service and keep costs fair for taxpayers.”

The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce engaged with elected Members and senior staff at Queen’s Park on Wednesday, highlighting enhanced air access for Niagara District Airport to attract increased tourism and business growth in Niagara.

“Niagara Week is an excellent opportunity to ensure that Niagara’s priorities are clearly heard at Queen’s Park,” said Mishka Balsom, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce.

“The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce was proud to join our partners at the Niagara Region and office of MPP Oosterhoff in advocating for key economic projects, including the expansion of Niagara District Airport. Strengthening the region’s transportation infrastructure is essential to supporting investment, tourism and sustainable growth across Niagara.”

The Ontario government is committed to working with local governments and municipal partners across the province to build safe and strong urban and rural communities with dynamic local economies, a high quality of life and attainable homes for everyone.

The Regional Municipality of Niagara is anticipated to grow to a population of 694,000 people and 272,000 jobs by the year 2051.
