Fonthill – Today, Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, announced Ontario is investing $108,717 in Seniors Community Grant projects in Niagara West.

This is a part of $7 million in provincewide funding to protect seniors and older adults by supporting over 320 community projects that help them to stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected.

“These investments make a big difference in the lives of older adults here in Niagara,” said MPP Oosterhoff.

“Staying connected close to home and safely taking part in local programs allows seniors to keep active with friends, family and the community.”

Recipients of the grants in Niagara West include the Town of Pelham, with a grant of $23,000; Town of Grimsby, with a grant of $20,075; Township of West Lincoln, with a grant of $16,100; The Volunteer Well, with a grant of $24,952, and KACB Worldwork Alliance Canada, with a grant $24,590.

The Seniors Community Grant Program is designed to increase independence, reduce social isolation and create positive connections.

“The health and well-being of seniors is in the interest of all and adds to the health and well-being of Pelham,” said Marvin Junkin, Mayor of the Town of Pelham.

“Dedicated programs like the Rise and Shine Breakfast Social at the Meridian Community Centre in Fonthill will continue to encourage social connections between residents, which are an essential part of a vibrant and thriving community.”

“The Seniors Community Grant Program is a critical lifeline across the province for seniors to learn new skills, get fit, enjoy group activities and stay connected to their friends and neighbours,” said Hon. Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

Recipients of the Seniors Community Grant Program can receive up to $25,000 to support local programs, services and events to provide seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement.

Today’s announcement highlights one of the many programs and services available to support the needs of seniors in Ontario.
