September 15, 2025

Grassie – One of the largest agricultural and rural exhibitions in North America, Niagara West is set to host more than 70,000 visitors to the 2025 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo at the West Niagara Agricultural Centre and Fairgrounds in Grassie, beginning Tuesday, September 16. Hosted by the Ontario Plowmen’s Association and 2025 Local Organizing Committee, the large-scale event will transform the local fairgrounds and surrounding fields into a vibrant tented city.

“It’s great to welcome the International Plowing Match back to our region after almost a century of competition,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

“Hardworking farmers are at the heart of our rural economy, keeping food on our tables and supporting thousands of jobs across the province. This large-scale event not only showcases the rich rural heritage of Niagara and our extensive mix of agricultural commodities, but brings over $25 million in rural economic development and agri-tourism to our region.”

As a locally elected representative of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, MPP Oosterhoff will be welcoming the Premier, Government Ministers and fellow provincial colleagues from across the province to Niagara.

The five-day event – hosted September 16 to September 20 – will feature daily entertainment, animal exhibits, demonstrations, hundreds of vendors, including local fruit and vegetable producers, as well as tractor and horse plowing competitions and a rodeo.

“The International Plowing Match is a great opportunity to celebrate the people dedicated to Growing Ontario,” said Hon. Trevor Jones, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness.

“Our agriculture and food industry generates nearly $52 billion in Gross Domestic Product and employs one in nine of people across the province. I encourage everyone to join us in the beautiful community of Grassie in Niagara to learn more about our farming traditions and the exciting innovations that will shape the future of agriculture!”

“The International Plowing Match embraces the dynamic and incredible spirit of rural Ontario,” said Hon. Lisa Thompson, Minister of Rural Affairs.

“This annual celebration is inspiring as rural communities, organizations and businesses create a local tented city that showcases the very best of the region.”

“The International Plowing Match is an iconic showcase that highlights the strength and vitality of Ontario’s rural communities and proudly celebrates our agricultural heritage,” said Hon. Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.

“This year’s event offers residents and visitors alike a tremendous opportunity to experience all that makes Niagara unique, while generating a significant boost for local businesses, strengthening our economy and leaving a lasting legacy of pride in the region.”

Highlights of the event include the opening day parade and ceremonies, along with dignitary events, including the Premier and fellow party leaders participating in friendly plowing competition at the match. New to this year’s match will be a dignitary grape stomp, reflecting Niagara’s legacy of grape growing and world-class winemaking.

“We are incredibly proud and fortunate to welcome the International Plowing Match to West Niagara,” said Jeff Jordan, Mayor of the Town of Grimsby.

“This event brings an unparalleled opportunity to showcase our vibrant rural communities, local businesses and agricultural heritage on a provincial stage.”

“Hosting the International Plowing Match is not only a celebration of our rich agricultural roots – it is also a tremendous economic and tourism opportunity that will benefit our entire region,” said Cheryl Ganann, Mayor of the Township of West Lincoln.

“We are incredibly proud to welcome the International Plowing Match to West Niagara,” said Sandra Easton, Mayor of the Town of Lincoln.

“From world-class wineries and rich tourism experiences to breathtaking natural spaces, our region is full of unique places to explore.”

“The International Plowing Match is a true celebration of the agricultural roots and rural communities that form so much of Niagara’s history and identity,” said Jim Bradley, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

“This exciting event will bring significant economic and tourism benefits to our region, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from across Ontario and beyond to experience Niagara.”
