St. Catharines – Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, joined Amarjot Sandhu, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure, along with Chris Bittle, MP for St. Catharines; Jennie Stevens, MPP for St. Catharines, and Mat Siscoe, Mayor of the City of St. Catharines, today, attending a ribbon cutting ceremony for the re-opening of Bogart Street Park.

The Ontario government supported the infrastructure upgrades at the local park with a $145,652 provincial grant through the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

“Bogart Street Park has long been a favourite destination for local families in St. Catharines to play sports or cool down in the summer heat,” said MPP Oosterhoff.

“Today’s re-opening ceremony of the renovated tennis courts and playground – funded by the province, as well as the federal government and City of St. Catharines – is a great example of how various levels of government can work together on community infrastructure that will benefit local residents for years to come.”

“As part of our plan to build Ontario, we are investing in local infrastructure that will support communities like St. Catharines,” said Hon. Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure.

“Together with our partners, our government is proud to support the renovations to Bogart Street Park. Residents of St. Catharines and Niagara can now participate in more sports and recreational activities in this inclusive and accessible space, giving way to more healthy lifestyles for years to come.”

The project at Bogart Street Park included upgrades of the tennis courts and playground, as well as an art installation by local Indigenous visual artist, Cheyenne Ricard.

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is a $30-billion, ten-year infrastructure program cost-shared between federal, provincial and municipal governments. The agreement between Ontario and Canada commits up to $320 million in provincial funding to the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream.
