MPP Oosterhoff Delivers Provincial Funding for Critical Infrastructure in Wainfleet
January 16, 2026
Wainfleet – The Ontario government is investing $125,000 to help renew and rehabilitate critical infrastructure in the Township of Wainfleet. The funding is being delivered through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund as part of the government’s more than $200 billion capital plan to protect Ontario by building key public infrastructure that will strengthen the economy and keep workers on the job in the face of tariffs and economic uncertainty.
“This important investment for Wainfleet is part of $4.5 million in funding for all five of our local municipalities in Niagara West, including Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham and West Lincoln,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.
“The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund is a key part of our government’s commitment to protect Ontario by getting shovels in the ground and supporting local economic growth and job creation.”
MPP Oosterhoff was joined in Wainfleet, today, by Brian Grant, Mayor of the Township of Wainfleet, and Mallory Luey, Chief Administrative Officer of the Township of Wainfleet, ahead of next week’s Rural Ontario Municipal Association Annual Conference in Toronto, January 18 to January 20, to announce the funding.
The Township of Wainfleet is receiving an increase of nearly twenty percent with a boost in the minimum grant amount for small, rural and Northern municipalities from $100,000 to $125,000.
“We are grateful for the province’s continued partnership and this significant boost through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund,” said Mayor Grant.
“For a rural municipality like Wainfleet, predictable funding is the backbone of responsible fiscal planning. This investment will help our council to stay true to our commitment of closing the infrastructure gap and ensuring our roads and bridges remain in good repair for the families and businesses who rely on them every day. It is about more than just asphalt and concrete – it is about maintaining the safety and long-term viability of our community.”
“Small, rural and Northern communities are essential to the growth and prosperity of Ontario,” said Hon. Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure.
“That is why we are increasing the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund’s minimum grant amount to provide predictability and stability for these communities and ensure they have the resources they need to thrive. With our record investments across all infrastructure programs, we are driving an unprecedented wave of construction – highways, transit, hospitals, schools and more – to make communities stronger, keep workers on the job, and drive economic growth for generations to come.”
In 2026, Ontario will allocate $400 million in support from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund to help 423 small, rural and Northern communities address critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems. The minimum grant amount for municipalities is being increased to $125,000 from $100,000. Funding allocations are based on a formula that accounts for the different needs and economic conditions of each community. Communities may accumulate funding for up to five years to address larger infrastructure projects.
The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund provides funding for local infrastructure projects in municipalities with populations under 100,000, rural and Northern municipalities, as well as for local services boards that own water or wastewater systems.
